Main Attractions of Dubai, Historical Route Highlights

Dubai, a city known for its opulence, modernity, and vibrant culture, is also steeped in a rich history that dates back centuries. Exploring the historical route of Dubai allows visitors to uncover the hidden gems and stories that have shaped this remarkable city. Here, we highlight some of the main attractions along this historical route.

1. Dubai Museum

Located in the heart of Old Dubai, the Dubai Museum is housed in the historic Al Fahidi Fort, which dates back to the 18th century. This museum provides a captivating journey through the city's evolution, showcasing artifacts and exhibits that depict Dubai's transition from a small fishing village to a global metropolis.

2. Bastakiya Quarter

The Bastakiya Quarter, also known as Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, is a beautifully preserved heritage area that offers a glimpse into Dubai's past. Its narrow, winding alleyways are lined with traditional courtyard houses adorned with wind towers, providing a stark contrast to the modern skyscrapers that dominate the city's skyline.

3. Al Shindagha Area

Adjacent to the Dubai Creek, the Al Shindagha area is a testament to Dubai's maritime heritage. Visitors can explore the Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House, the former residence of Dubai's ruler, which has been transformed into a museum showcasing the city's maritime history through photographs, documents, and artifacts.

4. Dubai Creek and Abra Ride

The Dubai Creek, a natural saltwater inlet, has played a crucial role in the city's development. Taking an abra (traditional wooden boat) ride across the creek offers a unique perspective of Old Dubai. The bustling activity along the creek provides a vivid contrast to the serene waters, showcasing the dynamic nature of the city.

5. Jumeirah Mosque

A symbol of Islamic architecture, the Jumeirah Mosque is one of the few mosques in Dubai that is open to non-Muslim visitors. Guided tours offer insight into Islamic culture and traditions, fostering a deeper understanding of the religion that plays a significant role in the lives of many Dubai residents.

6. Heritage and Diving Village

Located in the Shindagha area, the Heritage and Diving Village is a living museum that recreates the traditional way of life in Dubai. Visitors can experience various aspects of Emirati culture, from pearl diving to pottery making, providing a hands-on encounter with the city's heritage.

The bus frequency is terrible.

traveler

The tour is too long and expensive for the offerings. You can take the same tour by taxi for the same price, but it's more comfortable and faster. When you buy a ticket online, you have to exchange the voucher at Dubai Mall. You can't start at any point you prefer.

traveler – Germany

The booking process was easy and went smoothly. However, the local representative started our voucher on the wrong date, so we only received 1 day of sightseeing instead of the 3 we paid for.

We booked this and had to wait over an hour for the bus. Even then, it didn't arrive and we were taken to the highway to catch the bus. The free boat trip did not happen either.

It's a waste of money. For 600 AED, I could have taken cabs, used the metro, and taken a trip to Abu Dhabi and still had money in my pocket. I took the Palm Jumeirah cruise that was offered, but then 37 people were waiting for the bus, so I took a cab to the hotel for 56 AED and didn't have to wait or connect. I wouldn't recommend any Hop On Hop Off in Dubai. It's too expensive for what you get to see. I bought a 3-day pass and only used it twice.
